Quebec Day 14

Start: Baie Saint Paul
End: Mont St Anne
Mileage/cumulative: 34.59 / 581.95
Elevation Ascended/cumulative: 3,261 / 22,523
Weather: Sunny 55 degrees / Sunny 53 degrees
Flat tires (entire group) day/cumulative: 0 / 4

We left Baie Saint Paul at sea level and rode up, up, and up some more to a ski resort. Our route included two five-mile long climbs on a particularly unpleasant highway but once we turned off from there around mile 20, the riding improved. As promised, Hurricane Fiona delivered high winds the entire day, pushing us around quite a bit but also giving us a tailwind for a stretch.

This was a “get it done” kind of day with nothing to see at our destination. Mont St. Anne is what you’d expect for a ski resort in the off season – a bit of a ghost town. It was a good time to do laundry and stream college football. Watching our Tennessee Volunteers beat the hated Florida Gators was the best part of Day 14.

We finally return to the Route Verte on Day 15, with a relatively easy day of short mileage and little elevation gain. With any luck we might even wake up to light winds.

Most of the route was on a busy highway. This was a stretch with a nice shoulder, which wasn’t always the case.
Translation: in case of a moose intrusion, call 511.
We were grateful to reach the high point of the route after the second five-mile climb. 740 meters = 2,427 feet.
We were relieved to turn off of the highway and get on a quieter two-lane road.
Ahhh… much better.
Some technology is good. Being in a different country and still able to watch Tennessee beat Florida? That’s technology at its very best.

  1. You guys and Tom with your bucket lists. Tom has added one he didn’t want. He is in Marco Island, FL on the gulf coast waiting out a cat 4 hurricane. He said it wasn’t on his list, but would make for some good tales.
You and Bev stay safe please.

  2. You should be enjoying a pizza and beer with that game after climbing 2,427 feet. I hope the winds calm down for your next ride!
